Professional Development

Teachers at Arts & Sciences develop a culture where professional development is expected and embedded in the daily fabric of our school. Professional development includes large group presentations, grade level or team meetings, workshops, peer observations, team teaching, and offsite institutes and workshops.

Elementary and Middle School Drama Teacher (Grades 3 – 8)

Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences, an expeditionary learning school, is seeking a part-time innovative, dynamic, collaborative drama teacher with a strong background in teaching theater and dramatic arts for the 2019-20 school year.

The Arts & Sciences drama program has been a vibrant and strong part of our curriculum since the school’s beginning. We are dedicated to teaching the whole child, through collaboration and ingenuity, as we use our strong foundation in EL Education to teach young learners to be active and engaged learners. The drama program is beautifully woven into the fabric of our classrooms and often has connections with the classroom curriculum. We are especially interested in candidates who are mindful and enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary connections.

The successful candidate will understand the developmental needs of 8-14 year-olds and combine their knowledge of theater and drama with humor, energy, and a desire to inspire their students. They will model and promote the school’s character traits of compassion, courage, respect, trust, honesty and stewardship. Our school upholds the values of diversity and inclusivity and the successful candidate is able to create a safe and nurturing learning environment in which all students are respected.

Qualifications and Attributes

●A degree in Theater or the Arts, Education, or a related field

●Experience working with students in a classroom or related setting

●A passion for dramatic arts and theater

●Ability to design whole class performances and plays

●Affinity and enthusiasm for working with 8-14 year-olds

●Excellent communication skills

●Strong work ethic

●Willingness to learn and improve professionally

●Sound judgment and emotional maturity

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

●Develop curriculum and activities that are aligned with the school’s academic standards, mission, and vision

●Lead 3-4 whole class (approx. 20 students) performances per year

●Create, maintain and promote a safe, nurturing learning environment

●Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity

●Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students

●Incorporate direct instruction, discussion, projects, and cooperative work to engage all students, keep classes focused, and infuse a lasting desire to learn

●Communicate effectively, clearly, and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues
