Imagine That! Camps (ages 5 – 6)
Arts & Sciences offers fun and affordable summer camps that embody our school culture of honoring the whole child – cognitive, social and emotional development. Camps are led by experienced teachers and groups are divided by age. Camp activities are uniquely designed to meet the abilities and interests of each age group to foster a memorable summer camp experience.
Our 8-week program runs June 1 through July 31 (no camp the week of July 4th).
CAMP TIMES: Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Beforecare (8:00 am – 9 am) and Aftercare (3:00 pm – 5:30 pm) are available for an additional charge.
COST: Imagine That camps are $230 per week with no additional fees for materials. Funds through CYFD are accepted. Scholarships are available. Download Financial Aid Application PDF
Week 1 – Reading is Magic
June 1 – June 5
Reading is Magic (RIM) is a free summer and afterschool reading program for students in the Santa Fe Public Schools. It is a collaboration between our school and Reading Quest, a nonprofit organization dedicated to children’s literacy.
Week 2 – Printmaking
June 8 – June 12
Let’s get one more use out of household items we’d normally scrap and create amazing works of art with printmaking. This earth friendly activity will change the way we look at recyclable and non-recyclable material. Who would have imagined how yesterday’s garbage will transform our walls in this inventive exploration of printmaking.
Week 3 – Insectomania
June 15 – June 19
Let’s get buggy! Delve into the miniscule world of insects and other tiny creatures. Explore outdoor areas to discover local creatures, learn about bug habits and habitats. Make friends with actual ladybird beetles, up close and personal, as you feed and care for them. Create artistic representations of your favorite bugs using a variety of materials. Let your inner entomologist emerge!
Week 4 – Young Chefs
June 22 – June 26
Who’s hungry? Using all of your senses and working with common ingredients, we will dish out a variety of delicious and healthy taste sensations. On today’s menu we have pesto, fruit kabobs, and even green smoothies. (menu subject to change) (This camp may be unable to accommodate food restrictions.)
Week 5 – Sticky, Gooey, Smooth and Soft
July 6 – July 10
Creativity comes alive! Let’s get messy with exploding art. We will get our hands dirty as we create volcanic eruptions, homemade playdough, gak and 3D sand art!
Week 6 – Fiber Arts Fascination
July 13 – July 17
Get out your needles and thread! We will be making something magical out of fabric, thread and buttons. We will be learning different sewing techniques, terminology and how to stay safe while using sewing tool
Week 7 – Little Engineers
July 20 – July 24
Where science and art collide! We will travel around the world spying different bridges and how they are designed. We will be inventing and building our own bridges and engineer a variety of structures using a variety of materials. What ideas are in store for building? We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it!
Week 8 – Under the Sea
July 27 – July 31
Dive deep into this underwater exploration! We will study underwater sea life and bring some of those watery creatures to life: sculpt a sea urchin, create an ocean mobile and engage in seashell art. Using a variety of textured paper and found materials, we’ll create a magical wave of color.
